🚀 Phil Davis: From Finance to AGI

Roy:

Welcome back everyone to another deep dive. Today, we are looking into

Penny:

Mhmm.

Roy:

The fascinating world of Yeah. Getting Phil Davis.

Penny:

Oh, yeah. And This is gonna be

Roy:

Yeah. It's an interesting story.

Penny:

A good one. One.

Roy:

So, Phil Davis, he's done quite a bit. Yeah. And it all started

Penny:

Well, he started in finance.

Roy:

Yeah. He's starting finance.

Penny:

Yeah. He

Roy:

founded a company called Phil Stock World.

Penny:

Right. Uh-huh. Yeah. And and made quite the name for himself there.

Roy:

Yeah. I mean Forbes even recognized him as

Penny:

Oh, yeah.

Roy:

The most influential analyst on social media.

Penny:

That's a huge deal. I mean, like, media is

Roy:

It is.

Penny:

The thing.

Roy:

Yeah. It's everything.

Penny:

And then finance is, like, the biggest thing. So to be recognized by Forbes as like the top in both of those is Exactly. A really big deal.

Roy:

Exactly. Yeah. So that tells you right there that this guy

Penny:

Yeah.

Roy:

Has some serious skills.

Penny:

Definitely does.

Roy:

When it comes to like reading the markets, understanding trends Right. Communicating those to people.

Penny:

And just thinking differently about things.

Roy:

Exactly.

Penny:

To be ahead of the curve like that.

Roy:

Right. And I and I think that's kind of the key here is that he was,

Penny:

like Yeah.

Roy:

A real innovator in the financial space and, and, you know, built this huge community on Philstock World.

Penny:

Mhmm.

Roy:

But then kinda surprised everybody

Penny:

Right.

Roy:

With

Penny:

Pivot.

Roy:

His next move. Hard. Hard pivot.

Penny:

So he founded a company called Mad Jack Enterprises.

Roy:

Okay.

Penny:

Interesting name.

Roy:

Interesting name. Yeah. And they focus on something completely different.

Penny:

Totally. Artificial general intelligence.

Roy:

Right. And so, like, not just

Penny:

And not just like your narrow

Roy:

Your Roomba.

Penny:

Right. Exactly.

Roy:

Not just, like, the AI that plays chess.

Penny:

Right.

Roy:

Really, this, like, overarching Yep. Broader. General intelligence.

Penny:

Almost human like intelligence. Exactly.

Roy:

Yeah. Yeah. And this is the thing that he decides to dedicate all his time and energy to. Right. It's a huge jump.

Penny:

Huge jump.

Roy:

So it makes you think

Penny:

Like, how does that even happen?

Roy:

Right. Well, and that's that's what we're trying to figure out today. Yeah. So so, you know, you think about somebody who's spent their whole career in finance.

Penny:

Right.

Roy:

And then suddenly they're developing some of the most advanced AI systems out there. Like, how do those two things even connect?

Penny:

Well, think there are some clear connections there. Like, you think about it, the kind of skills that you need to be successful in finance are not that different from the skills you need to be successful in AGI development.

Roy:

So what kind of things are we talking about?

Penny:

Well, you've to be able to understand complex systems, identify patterns, kind of predict where things are going, and then you also got to be able to communicate those ideas effectively You to other got to be able to raise capital, build a team, and then just kind of like manage risk.

Roy:

So it's almost like he's taking this playbook from finance and applying it to this whole new field.

Penny:

Absolutely. And I think that's what makes him so successful.

Roy:

Yeah, that's fascinating.

Penny:

It is.

Roy:

But then there's this other piece to the story.

Penny:

Right.

Roy:

And that is this hedge fund that he started called Capital Ideas.

Penny:

Okay. So this is under the Mad Jack?

Roy:

Yeah, it's under Mad Jack.

Penny:

Umbrella, yeah.

Roy:

So Mad Jack is the parent company.

Penny:

Got it.

Roy:

They're developing the AGI. Mhmm. But then he's also got this hedge fund called Capital Ideas.

Penny:

That's interesting because

Roy:

that brings using him the AGI to make investments. It's roots. Right. Yeah. So full circle, kinda.

Penny:

Full circle, it's like he's taking the skills he learned in finance.

Roy:

Right.

Penny:

But now he's got this secret weapon.

Roy:

Yeah. He's got this like super powerful AI

Penny:

Yeah.

Roy:

That's helping him make investment decisions.

Penny:

Yeah. And and it makes you wonder, like, what kind of insights Right. Can this AGI provide

Roy:

Right.

Penny:

That, like, humans just can't even see. You know, can spot trends that we're just not even aware of.

Roy:

Right. Is it reading news articles and social media posts?

Penny:

Is it listening to this podcast?

Roy:

Exactly. Yeah. And kind of synthesizing all this information to make these really precise predictions.

Penny:

Exactly. And if he was already successful Right. Predicting the markets before Right. Imagine what he can do with this.

Roy:

It's like he's got a crystal ball

Penny:

Right.

Roy:

That's powered by AI.

Penny:

Exactly. And so this is where it gets really interesting because Yeah. On the one hand, it's like, wow. This is amazing. He's using this cutting edge technology

Roy:

Yeah.

Penny:

To revolutionize finance.

Roy:

Right.

Penny:

But then on the other hand, it's like, is this fair?

Roy:

Right. Is this giving him an unfair advantage?

Penny:

An unfair advantage over other investors.

Roy:

Exactly.

Penny:

You know? And so this is kind of like the ethical dilemma Yeah. That we're facing.

Roy:

And and it's and it's not just about finance either.

Penny:

Right.

Roy:

Because if this AGI can be used to predict the markets

Penny:

Yeah.

Roy:

Who's to say it can't be used to predict other things?

Penny:

Like elections.

Roy:

Elections. Yeah. Or or social trends.

Penny:

Social trends?

Roy:

You know, consumer behavior.

Penny:

Yeah. The possibilities are kind of endless.

Roy:

Right. And and that's kind of what makes this whole story so fascinating. Yeah. And Yeah. And also a little bit scary.

Penny:

It is. Yeah. Because it makes you think about the power Yeah. Of this technology. And who controls it.

Penny:

And who controls it.

Roy:

Right. And and are we ready for a future?

Penny:

Are we ready for a future where

Roy:

Where AI?

Penny:

AI is making all the decisions.

Roy:

Making all the decisions. Yeah.

Penny:

Yeah. I don't know.

Roy:

And so I think, you know, for all of you listening out there

Penny:

Yeah.

Roy:

You know, this is a story that really makes you think about the future.

Penny:

It does.

Roy:

About the power of technology.

Penny:

Absolutely.

Roy:

And about the role that we as humans Yeah. Wanna play

Penny:

Where do we fit in?

Roy:

In this, you know, rapidly changing world.

Penny:

Exactly.

Roy:

Yeah. So hopefully this has given you some food for thought.

Penny:

Food for thought, definitely.

Roy:

And, yeah, we'll see you next time for another Deep Dev.

Penny:

See you later.

Roy:

Alright. Bye. Bye.
